Beast of the East | Trail Half Marathon & 10k

Sunday 25 October 2026 • Half starts at St Catherine’s Woods • 10k starts at Bouley Bay • Both races finish at Devil’s Hole

Why runners travel for this one

Beast of the East is one of Jersey’s standout trail races. You get dramatic cliff-path running, steep climbs, fast descents, technical trail and a proper finish-line feel at Devil’s Hole, all packed into a race that works brilliantly as a weekend trip.

It looks big and it feels like a challenge, but it is still accessible to a wide range of runners. If you want a race with real scenery, real terrain and a strong atmosphere, without needing to commit to a full ultra weekend, this is a very good option.

Half Marathon | What to expect

Starting at St Catherine’s Woods, the half marathon heads through the woods to Rozel before joining the North Coast cliff paths. From there, you take on some of the toughest and most technical terrain this stretch of coastline has to offer. Expect sharp climbs, hard-earned descents, exposed coastal sections and a route that feels rugged from the gun.

It is tough and beautiful in equal measure. With around 95% off-road terrain and roughly 2,700 ft of elevation, this is a proper trail challenge, but one that still welcomes a wide range of runners who are prepared and realistic about the course. Limit 100 runners.

10k | What to expect

The 10k starts at Bouley Bay and quickly joins the northern coastal path, taking in classic sections including Wolf’s Lair, Les Platons and Bonne Nuit Bay before finishing at Devil’s Hole. It is shorter, but still punchy, technical and full of character.

If you want a proper taste of Jersey’s cliff-path trail running without stepping up to the half marathon, this is the one. With around 95% off-road terrain and approximately 1,600 ft of elevation, it is no free ride, but it is a very rewarding route. Limit 50 runners.

Who this race suits

This race is best suited to runners who want something more interesting than a flat road race and are happy dealing with climbs, uneven ground and proper trail conditions. You do not need to be an elite runner, but you do need to respect the course and come prepared.

If you are travelling over for it, you are not coming for an easy jog. You are coming for a memorable race experience in one of the most scenic parts of Jersey.

What’s included

Your entry includes a race number, finisher’s T-shirt, medal, water stops, race organisation, chip timing/results, and drinks and snacks at the finish. We work hard to make our races friendly, well-marked and welcoming while still being honest about the challenge.

FAQs

Do I need trail shoes?

Yes. The North Coast is technical and can become slippery in wet conditions. Trail shoes are essential.

Is the course marked?

Yes. We use arrows and barrier tape at decision points. That said, this is trail running, not a city road race, so having the GPX as a backup is sensible.

Are all kit items required?

Yes. The course and weather conditions can change quickly. Mandatory kit is there for safety, not for show.

What is available at checkpoints?

Water, coke and sweets. Please bring your own bottle or cup as checkpoints are cup-less.

Is there a cut-off?

Supportive cut-offs apply. If you are significantly outside the guidance window, you may be asked to retire for safety and event management reasons.

Is this suitable for someone travelling over from the UK or France?

Yes. Jersey works very well for a race weekend. It is compact, easy to get around, and Beast of the East gives you a proper coastal trail experience without needing a huge travel commitment.

Travelling to Jersey

Jersey is a very workable race-trip destination. Short flights run from multiple UK airports, and ferry routes also connect Jersey with the UK and France.

Where to stay

St Helier is usually the easiest base for off-island runners, with the widest choice of hotels, apartments, food options and transport links.

Getting to the start

Getting to St Catherine’s on a Sunday morning can be a bit tricky. You can check the bus planner here, but taxis are likely to be the most practical option. We also have a Facebook group where you can post to see if anyone local is able to offer a lift.

Make a weekend of it

Jersey offers coastal paths, sea views, good food and plenty to explore around race day. This works well as more than just a fly-in, fly-out event.

More detailed travel guidance for off-island runners will be added closer to the event.

Rules

  • Follow course markings at all times
  • No short cuts
  • No pacers or external crewing
  • Be self-sufficient between checkpoints
  • Respect the trails and other users
  • Littering may result in disqualification
