Why run the series?
Four Sunday mornings. Four different routes. Four excuses to explore parts of Jersey you might not normally run. We sort out the course, mark the way and record your time. What you do with the bit in between is entirely up to you. Some people will race. Some will chat their way around. Some will walk the hills and stop to look at the view. All of those count.
Different routes, different landscapes and four Sunday mornings somewhere worth running.
Choose 5km or 10km. Race it if you want to. Jog it, walk the hills or simply enjoy the route.
Timing is optional in spirit. Tea and cake is considerably less so.
The four Sundays
Think of it less as a race and more as a Sunday-morning sightseeing tour on the trails. We find somewhere interesting to run, work out the route, mark the way and give you a finish time. How seriously you take the stopwatch is entirely up to you.
Race 01 · Sun 18 Oct
Start the autumn overlooking one of Jersey’s most recognisable landmarks, then head out onto the coastal trails around the west of the island. Sea views, rolling paths and cake waiting when you get back.
5km / 10km · 09:00
Race 02 · Sun 8 Nov
An autumn lap of Jersey’s north-west corner, mixing open cliff paths, quieter woodland and some lovely runnable trail.
5km / 10km · 09:00
Race 03 · Sun 22 Nov
The wilder one. North-coast scenery, bigger climbs and a route that gives you a very good excuse to stop pretending you’re checking your watch and admire the view.
5km / 10km · 09:00
Race 04 · Sun 13 Dec
One last Sunday on the trails to round off the year. The venue and route are still to be revealed, with the usual marked course, relaxed atmosphere and something warm waiting at the finish.
5km / 10km · 09:00Included with entry
You concentrate on the scenery. We’ll worry about the directions.
There if you want to know how you did.
Water and something to eat when you get back.
Obviously.
Included when entering three or more races.
Your number for each event you enter.
What to expect
Each Sunday takes you somewhere different, with routes of approximately 5km and 10km. Expect coastal paths, woodland, mud, grass, rocks and whatever the Jersey weather decides to add.
Grippy footwear will make life much easier on mud, roots, rocks and uneven paths.
Pick the marked route that suits you at each individual event.
One week might be fast and runnable. The next could be muddy, windy and a little more adventurous. That’s part of the appeal.
We’ll send venue-specific kit and safety information before each event.
New to trails?
You get all the useful bits of a race without having to behave like you’re racing.
One marked route and a very manageable first step onto the trails.
Run, jog, walk the climbs or stop for a view. There is no pressure to treat it like a race.
We’ve already worked out where you’re going.
We time everyone, but whether you care about the result is entirely up to you.
For many people, this is the competitive part.

Quick answers
Technically, yes. You get a race number, we time you and we publish the results. But you absolutely do not have to approach it like one. Think of it as an organised Sunday trail run somewhere interesting. We provide the route and the timing; you decide whether you are chasing a time or simply enjoying a morning outside.
Some will. Others very much won’t. You’ll find quicker runners towards the front, people chatting their way around, and others taking their time further back. There is room for all of it.
Yes. The 5km route is a particularly good introduction. The course is marked and you are welcome to take part at your own pace.
No. Walking hills and more technical sections is completely normal in trail running. Plenty of experienced trail runners do exactly that.
Choose 5km if you are newer to trails, returning after a break or simply fancy a shorter morning out. Choose 10km if you are comfortable spending longer on varied terrain.
Yes. Enter one event, choose a few or take part in all four.
No. Choose the 5km or 10km option that suits you at each event.
No. They are approximate distances. Natural trail routes do not always land neatly on an exact kilometre.
Yes. Routes are marked using signs, arrows and red-and-white tape. You should still remain alert for markings, other trail users and natural hazards.
Grippy shoes are strongly recommended, particularly as the trails become wetter later in the autumn.
All four are scheduled for 09:00. Venue-specific arrival, parking and toilet information will be emailed beforehand.
Requirements depend on the route, weather and conditions. Read the final pre-event email carefully and arrive prepared for autumn weather.
Results are published online after each event.
Please check the current Trail Monkey terms and conditions for refund and deferral information.
