The Double Top Ultra Marathon Jersey: Unfurling a new chapter, since the 2024 edition the race now starts at Les Landes and takes you to St Catherines via Jersey’s breathtaking coastal path. Traversing the St Catherines Breakwater before retracing your steps back to Les Landes, via a little loop out to Le Tacq. Tackling this out-and-back route is nothing short of monumental!

Before you Enter
The Double Top Ultra Marathon Jersey is a rigorous test of endurance, designed for well-prepared runners. If you’re unsure of your ability to complete the course within the strict 12-hour time limit, we strongly advise against participating. Medals are reserved for those who cross the finish line within this cutoff, and we ask for your understanding in not placing us in the uncomfortable situation of having to explain this rule on race day.
Course markings are placed at critical decision points where the route changes. There may be long stretches without markings when the path is straightforward. As a participant, it’s your responsibility to stay alert for signs and to either familiarize yourself with the course in advance or use a GPS device loaded with the provided .gpx file for navigation guidance (this is particularly recommende if you are unfamiliar with the course or not from Jersey)
Regarding aid stations, the food we supply is intended to supplement, not replace, the nourishment you bring in your drop bags or carry with you. While we will offer ample water and soft drinks, as well as crisps, energy bars and other sold foods, the sustenance we provide should be viewed as an added bonus rather than a primary source of fuel. Additional water stations will be made available in case of extreme heat.

Kit

- A cup should you require coke at checkpoints and at the finish.(we are a cup-less race at all points of the race)
- Enough Calories to see you between each checkpoint

- Spare layer in case of inclement weather
- 1 Drop bag if you have further nutritional requirements for the half way point
- Random kit checks will be carried out – anyone who clearly is not carrying the required kit items will be unable to start the race until they can produce them.

Trail shoes, for example, provide the necessary grip and support to navigate uneven terrains, reducing the risk of slips, falls, and injuries. Sun protection, in the form of sun hats and sunscreen, is vital to guard against harmful UV rays and minimize the chances of sunburn, heatstroke, and long-term skin damage.
Hydration and nutrition are critical components of any race. Carrying a water receptacle with at least 1 litre of water and sufficient calories in the form of snacks helps runners maintain their energy levels and stay hydrated throughout the race. Reusable cups contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing plastic waste at checkpoints.
Safety measures, such as carrying a charged phone with the race organizer’s contact number and having the What3words app, ensure that runners can call for help and be located in case of emergencies. A spare layer of clothing protects runners from unexpected weather changes, while a headtorch provides visibility during low-light conditions for those still on the course near the cut-off time.
In summary, mandatory kit items play a crucial role in safeguarding runners’ health, safety, and performance during trail races. Adhering to these requirements helps create a more enjoyable, secure, and environmentally responsible racing experience for all participants.
The Course and Markings
The Double Top Ultra Marathon Jersey is a 40-mile journey, give or take. Please be mentally prepared for a distance that may slightly deviate from the 40-mile mark. Our primary goal is to offer you a unique adventure and a genuine challenge. To this end, we’ve marked key decision points along the course to guide you. However, don’t expect every twist and turn to be marked; that’s part of the adventure!
Strongly Advised: If you’re not familiar with the course, we have provided a GPX file on this page that you can download to your device for reference. This is a standard practice in ultra-marathons, and not leveraging this tool would be leaving your race to chance. By simply keep the sea on your left on the way out and on your right on the way back, and also having a gpx file, will ensure your success!
Food and Drink Water Stations
Water stations are spaced roughly 7 miles apart. It’s imperative that you carry enough water to sustain yourself between these checkpoints. While we ensure sufficient hydration supplies at each station, ultimate responsibility for your hydration lies with you.
Each aid station will offer basic sustenance like crisps, savoury snacks, squash, coke, and sweets. If you have specific nutritional needs, please make sure to pack additional food in your pack or drop bag. This event has adopted a cupless policy; thus, if you plan on having a drink at the aid stations or finish line, please bring your own reusable cup.
Given that the race takes place in May, prepare for the likelihood of hot weather and take all necessary precautions for your comfort and safety on race day.
Medical Conditions
If you suffer from any medical conditions please ensure that you place a Red Cross on your race number before race day, and write your medical conditions on the back of the race number with a I.C.E. contact also.
Travel
Jersey is accessible from most major UK airports. The island is serviced by British Airways, Flybe and EasyJet and if booked well enough in advance flights can be very reasonable. In terms of accommodation, most is centred in St Helier, there is a Premier Inn and many other hotels in the town. Jersey Travel is a great website to check out for bookings also.
Getting to the Race Start
If staying in St Helier, there is a bus station near Liberation Square. To get to Les Landes you need the number 8 bus. Allow 50 mins or so for the journey. Bus timetables are here – there are taxis available as well in St Helier or a list can be found here
